Motion Capture Lisbon

A pharmaceutical client came to activ8-3D with the brief of bringing two of their brand characters to life, entertaining and interacting with visitors to the Lisbon EASD Diabetes exhibition 2011. The aim was to draw people to the stand and engage them with entertaining real time character interaction.

2x 62” portrait plasma screens were fitted to the main front corner of the exhibition stand. The 2 motion capture suit actors were hidden back stage in a 4 x 2m control room.

The actors’ controlled the characters’ full body movements and speech in real time, using the motion capture system. The actors could see and hear the audience via a live video and audio feed to their control room.

This allowed for full, real time interaction between the audience and characters. The characters would chat to audience members, just like a real person would: “Hello, I like your red tie… Are you enjoying Lisbon?...Why not take a look at our exhibition stand and learn more about our products?”.

Exhibition visitors could discuss the clients’ products with the characters on a serious level, or casually chat to add a bit of fun to their day.

The activ8-3D motion capture system was massively successful and by far the most popular feature at the whole exhibition. The characters drew in a huge number of visitors to the stand, leaving them thoroughly entertained and often amazed at the technology on show.
